Erik Sabrowski Makes MLB Debut!
An athlete I've had the privilege of coaching and training for the past twelve years made his boyhood dream a reality last week. He pitched 1.1 scoreless innings with 2 strikeouts for the Cleveland Guardians last Wednesday against the Kansas City Royals.
It's a truly remarkable story of perseverance and relentlessness.
Erik went to a junior college in Texas, then after a year transferred to a different juco in Kansas (Cloud County). He was drafted in the 14th round, but needed to undergo Tommy John surgery. A couple years later, he had to have another Tommy John surgery. Despite all this, he remained ultra-focused and continued to work.
Then, last night he followed it up with an excellent outing against the Dodgers, striking out Freddie Freeman and retiring Shohei Ohtani in 2.1 shutout innings of relief, with 3 strikeouts! Quite the start to his MLB career.
I first coached Erik when he was a first-year 15U player, and then coached him through high school both in 18U AAA and in the off-season with the Prospects Academy. When he was drafted in 2019, my career as a Strength & Conditioning Coach was starting to gain some momentum a little bit, and it's been a real privilege to help him chase his goals.
