Things to Check Out This Weekend

It’s hard to believe it’s November.  This means we are exactly four weeks away from Christmas time so I’m pretty fired up.  Also the Oilers are 9-4-1!!

Tribe of Mentors – Tim Ferriss

I’m going through this book for a second time. I’d recommend not reading it like a traditional book: either read 1-2 different people each day or use the table of contents and go out of order.  There’s a broad scope of highly successful individuals interviewed in this book but you start to find patterns and commonalities between them.  One thing that has stood out to me is how so many of them value daily walks/unplugging/meditating/solitude.

Naval Ravikant – Joe Rogan Podcast

Naval is like Yoda man.  So much good in here.

Nietzsche and Morality: The Higher Man and The Herd

This is a piece I re-read periodically, and there’s a particular quote I try to remind myself consistently.

“There is a solitude within him that is inaccessible to praise or blame, his own justice that is beyond appeal.”

I constantly am trying to motivate, empower, and ultimately – teach my athletes to hold themselves accountable; to get them to a point where they set their own standard for themselves.

For me personally, it’s about continuing to strive to be the person I want to be and looking in the mirror and re-evaluating whether or not my daily actions are in line with who I strive to be.  The process is never ending, and who I am as an individual will impact my athletes because as Dan Millman, author of The Way of the Peaceful Warrior, once said “embody only what you teach; teach only what you embody”

I’ve read this book three times, and three times it’s changed my life.
